Education is the key to PPW!  

We have several events yearly that offer incredible speakers on various topics to help the professional photographer.


The Spring Educational Conference - INNOVATE -is around April and provides the association's members an event to come together to enjoy old and new friends. The day before this event our Annual Image Competition takes place. Hired judges are brought in to judge and critique our images with the 12 Elements of Merited Print as a guide. 


We hold a Fall Event around October to give a stimulating break from the photographer's busy season of High School seniors and families, for example. 


During the year, each PPW District holds meetings four times a year in the their area. To learn about these events besides here on our website, The Washington Photographer Journal comes out four times a year. Within the pages of the journal, you will also learn about the workings of PPW and informational articles about our industry.

    The Advisory Board

    The Advisory Board is PPW’s monthly business mastermind program that meets on Zoom, 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00pm. Exchange ideas and tackle the problems that are holding you back. 

    Content will include business discussion, accountability, problem solving, "hot seat" discussion, feedback, quarterly planning, mentorship, and guest speakers.

    Join us to take your business to new heights! You will earn 1 business merit for every 3 meetings you attend.

    Board meetings are open to all members. Board members, please, register so we know who is attending.

    Here are the Minutes from the Spring Board meeting for our annual summer board retreat and meeting on July 27-28Reports and motions are due on July 14th.

    We will be meeting at Southcenter at 2800 Southcenter Mall in Tukwilla. Please arrive between 11am -12 noon. We will start the Agenda of Discussion at 12. We will conclude at 5pm. This is an informal meeting time. If you have any new ideas or something that hasn't been addressed, this is the time to attend. 

    Sunday at 9am, we will start the official meeting. If that is all you can attend, please be on time. If you can't make the meeting and you are a voting member, please let us know if you have a proxy attending.

    Join other PPW members for a casual lunch to chat about photography, business, and life in general. This is a no-cost social event; feel free to invite all your photography friends, whether they're current PPW members or not. Folks can purchase their own food and beverages as they wish; the venue has a variety of food options as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

    Headshot Masterclass ~ Take It To The Next Level

    A headshot is more than just a portrait of a client.
    It is a collaboration between the photographer and the subject to create a very important branding and marketing tool representing the client and their business to the world at large.

    Conceptual Ideas to cover:

    1. Planning the tone and look of the headshot. Deciding on the message to be conveyed to the client's potential clients or employers.
    2. Picking lighting and background.
    3. Helping the client find expression and look that conveys what the client is representing. Telling their crafted story.

    Technical Ideas to cover:

    • Lighting
    • Choosing focal length
    • Tethering
    • Client Interaction
    • Image selection
    • File Handling and Retouching

    What to bring if you want to photograph:

    • Your camera and lens(s).
    • Preferably lens(s) should be an 85mm, 105mm, or a 70-200mm
    • Godox Transmitter - If you don't have one please let us know what camera system you use and we'll try to arrange one for you to borrow.
    • Suggested to also bring your tripod, or an Arca Swiss style mounting plate.
    Soft drinks and coffee will be provided. Lunch will be on your own

PPW AnNual Educational Conference

Innovate is Washington's yearly photography conference and Image Competition that is held at different locations throughout the state. We take pride in offering diverse programs where you can learn from some of the best educators in the industry. In addition to education we also offer fun and fellowship with our 'Fun Party'. This social event also includes fundraising so we can continue to offer great programs and scholarships for our members and support our growing organization. Our President's Banquet will conclude this years conference where we will be honoring and recognizing members for their achievements. If photography is an important part of your life, don't miss the biggest PPW event of the year!

Entering your state competition is one of the best ways to push yourself to be more. You'll learn where you stand—how your photography matches up with your peers. You'll learn about the 12 Elements of a Merit Image, and start incorporating them into your daily photography.
